All who are in Him possess Life, and Life possesses them. The Life is in the Son. The Son is in me, and I am in Him. We share in a common Life. "He that is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him (I Corinthians 6:7)."
Everyone together who possess Life are called the Ecclesia, the Church, the Body of Christ. The individual members of the Ecclesia are called Christians. They are the in-Christed ones. They abide in Him, and He abides in them.
You ask is not a Christian one who believes thus and so, or behaves thus and so. We answer that they may very well believe or behave thus and so, but the belief or the behavior, while it may assist us in identifying them, is not what makes them a Christian. It is the Life. Certainly, Christians have a core system of beliefs and practices. But the characteristic of a Christian is Life. It is not even "the Lord of my life", implying something apart from Him that I still have control over; it is "the Lord AS my Life."

Jesus said His yoke is EASY, and His burden is LIGHT. But "religion" has turned the easy yoke and the light burden into a difficult yoke and a heavy burden. Yet the Lord has not changed, and has never asked us to do anything in our own strength. Instead, He tells us to go ahead and give up, so that HE can do what we cannot do!
This message will be an encouragement to anyone who thinks the Christian life is too difficult to live. Go ahead and quit - and let Jesus take over! http://www.theschoolofchrist.org/audio/124.html

The Lord is speaking to many at once and calling them aside from the traditional church building meeting to gather together in homes. The more in tune with the Lord we become, the more dissatisfied and uncomfortable we become with what is being said and done in His Name. Yet, there is an uncomfortable pause between where we used to be and where we are called to be. It is a lonely time in which we will be misunderstood by many that have not seen what we have seen. What The NEW Covenant Says About Money & Giving by Chip Brogden
WHAT'S THE ONE THING THAT WOULD MAKE A CHURCH MAD ENOUGH TO KICK ME OUT AND THEN WRITE A LETTER TO EXPOSE ME AS A REBEL?
Our journey into the Wilderness began in 1999, when a church board illegally fired me from my pastoral position and demanded that I vacate the parsonage. A week later the ushers stood at the door of the church and handed out letters to everyone who attended, letting them know the reasons why I had been fired.
Someone sent me a copy of the letter they passed around. I still have it in my files, and sometimes I pull it out, read it through, and remind myself of the price my family and I paid for being faithful to the truth. I haven't regretted the decision.
I won't reveal everything written in the letter, but I will share one thing that may shed light on why this church and this denomination was so anxious to get rid of me. Rest assured it was not due to any moral failure or besetting sin on my part.
I actually took it as a compliment.
Quote:
"Chip Brogden maintains an extensive website where he has displayed attitudes and teachings that demonstrate a compromised loyalty to the church and the leadership..."
This "extensive website", now known as TheSchoolOfChrist.Org, continues to speak the truth concerning Jesus with an UNCOMPROMISED loyalty and jealously for the preeminence of Christ over all things. That will never change.
But it is true that back in 1999 I did not have as much GRACE as I do now. :-)
One article in particular sealed my doom and made my excommunication virtually assured. The title of that article was "Terminate The Tithe!"
In that essay I attacked everything I had grown to hate about the church, the clergy, the denomination, and the religious system that I was still very much a part of. Eventually I removed it from the website because even through it was true, the spirit behind it was wrong. It was written in anger and bitterness. I didn't feel it deserved a place with the other Christ-centered essays I had begun to write.
But that didn't stop people from writing in, begging me to send them the article on tithing!
Well, the article (as far as I know) is gone forever. Probably for the best. But this is still a controversial issue and it is one of the more commonly asked questions we get here at The School of Christ.
With a little more grace, and a little more wisdom, and a little more Christ-centered revelation, I have put together a two-part audio series designed to give you peace of mind and freedom from bondage in this area.
PART ONE: Tithing in the Old Covenant - gives a complete history of tithing, all the commandments on tithing, a description of the different tithes (there were several), why those commandments were given, and why Organized Religion desperately wants you to believe they all apply to you today.
PART TWO: Giving in the New Covenant - shows how a Spirit-led believer in Christ is free from the curse of the Law, including tithing, and gives a complete history of giving from a New Testament perspective so you can experience joy, not fear, when God leads you to give - or, to NOT give.
If you have questions about tithing and you need Scriptural teaching from someone other than the pastor of a church that expects you to pay tithes, this teaching is for you. I hope you'll check it out, listen to the evidence, and come to your own prayerful conclusion.
But be careful! Churches get nervous when I talk about this.

For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And you are complete in Him…" (Colossians 2:6,8,9a)
The Christian life is a life that is lived IN CHRIST. That is to say, to walk IN HIM is to live as a Christian. Christianity is not a religion, but a relationship. A Christian is a branch that grows out of the Vine and continually produces abundant fruit for the Husbandman. The Church is the gathering together of all individual branches into one Vineyard (see John 15). In this metaphor we see that Christianity is supposed to be a living phenomenon, an observable reality, not a religious philosophy or set of teachings.
As we first received the Lord Jesus, so we continue to walk in the Lord Jesus. Receiving Christ is the Gate, but walking in Him as we have received Him is the Path. The Gate is an event, while the Path is a process. The Gate is for entering, while the Path is for walking.
Everything God has done, is doing, and will do is aimed at bringing us deeper into Christ, to finish what was begun in us when we first received Him. God is the One Who brings us through the Gate, and God is the One Who leads us along the Path. Everything God has done, is doing, and will do has the same purpose, and that purpose explains everything you have been through, everything you are going through, and everything you will go through.....

There are only two kinds of knowledge in the universe: flesh and blood, or Spirit and Truth. It is only when the Spirit of God reveals Christ to us that we can truly know Him as He is. Learning how to cooperate with the Holy Spirit is critical to our continued growth in grace and knowledge of Christ. The Spirit reveals Christ, leads us deeper into Him, and prepares us to enter the Kingdom of God.
